What did you do today? We went to worship, came home to make lunch and watched the Moody Church’s service streaming live while cooking, had spaghetti for lunch, made oatmeal cookies, had resting time during which I was working on the checkerboard I’m making, had Dean over to play, had supper consisting of fried eggs, cheese, oranges and popcorn, watched “Frozen,” got ready for bed, read a bible story, facetimed with George, tucked everyone in and proceeded to work on the checkerboard until way too late.
Lydia 12.5 months: she’s walking pretty well now, says daddy, mommy, down, more milk, Dean, dog, loves to sing, laugh, read books together and in general enjoys all our day-to-day activities. She waves to just about anyone and flashes her big gummy smile (though she does have two teeth now), blows kisses, and loves attention. Lydia may be our most opinionated child so far. She wins the prize by a long shot for not sleeping through the night the longest and has probably traveled more miles than any of the other girls. She’s a sweetie! Definitely a keeper 🙂
Taking 6 month pictures of Miss Lydia Elise! She’s a big girl, rolling around now and started food about two weeks ago. She’s less interested than our other girls were and sometimes won’t open her mouth for any of it. 🙂 She likes to chomp on anyone’s available fingers, play with her toes, play with toys, grab at anything in reach and loves it when anyone talks to her. She’s pretty content to be on my hip, in a carrier or in the bumbo chair as long as people are around for her to watch. She sits up but isn’t very steady yet. She still goes from happy to a piercing scream rather quickly, but it seems to be lessening in frequency. However, the last 4 nights, she and I have been awake together a lot! Last night she was up four times between midnight and 2am. After that, I lost count. She loves baths and loves being outside, but didn’t think much of sitting in the grass for pictures after a few minutes. She had a check up this week and is in the 20th-30th %, weighing 14lb 10oz and measuring 25.5″ long. I can’t believe 6 months have passed so quickly, but I’m trying to enjoy every moment (and reminding myself to try as much as possible to continue to capture moments in time in photos and videos. I know I will appreciate my efforts down the road!
Grace and Ellie are both puny today. Amazingly enough, they both are taking naps so look with I get to do with Clara and Lydia…mix up some cookies! Our favorites to make are oatmeal chocolate chip. I use the recipe from the Quaker Oats box, but here’s my variation:
2 sticks butter, softened
1 c brown sugar (or even less. I like to scamp on the sugar and add more chocolate chips to make up for it!)
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt and mix well.
1 1/2 c. flour
3 c. quick oats
1-2 c. dark chocolate chips
slivered almonds, rice krispies, coconut, sunflower seeds, flax seed ground or whole, whatever else sounds yummy!
Bake 350* for 8-10 minutes. I like to take mine out when the bottom is barely golden brown and the top is still a little glossy (i.e. probably not fully baked). You then have a nice moist and semi-gooey cookie after it’s cooled. Enjoy and if you try them, let me know what you think!
